How to Find and Choose a COVID-19 Testing Service Provider

Locate a private testing service provider that can offer the testing services you need. You may pick a provider from GOV.UK’s supplier listings or do your own research. Companies may use the list of suppliers for general population COVID-19 testing to find a third-party provider that is undergoing UKAS accreditation to provide workforce testing.

Before continuing, private-sector employers and third-party providers that want to set up their own workforce testing site should read the COVID-19 testing guidance for employers. Your travel operator may be able to help you discover a provider for a travel-related test.

How to Get a Private COVID-19 Test

If you want to travel overseas, you’ll need to schedule a COVID-19 test with a private company. There are several processes to follow and elements to consider while preparing for a private COVID-19 test.

Check UKAS Requirements

By law, all COVID-19 tests must meet strict federal government minimum standards. Suppliers must also provide a declaration stating that their testing adheres to the criteria. Depending on which scheme is utilized, a test provider for asymptomatic COVID-19 testing may not meet the minimum standards for day 2 lateral flow tests in international testing and/or Test to Release in international arrivals, as well as day 2 rapid antigen test and day 8 PCR testing in international arrivals.

Check to see whether the supplier is listed on GOV.UK

Before continuing, double-check that the supplier is included in the GOV.UK list of providers for the testing service you want. The service has been accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) after it was examined against the government’s minimum standards. Each testing system has its own set of requirements.

Examine the terms and conditions of the supplier

Visit the service provider’s website to discover more about their terms and conditions, as well as other information.

The following are some of the items to consider:

  • The cost of the Covid-19 Test.
  • You may take the test anywhere and whenever you want—for example, you can travel to a test location or they can come to your place to take a private PCR test in London.
  • How long will the results of your testing take to arrive?
  • Which companies provide test kits by postal or courier delivery?

You should give yourself plenty of time to get your test equipment. If you need an in-person assessment, you should check with service providers directly to determine if this is possible. Several airlines and travel providers offer discounts for trip assessments; see their websites for more information.

Examine the provider’s client reviews

To assess the service provider’s reputation, you’ll need to do your own research. Websites with consumer reviews or personal recommendations, for example, might be beneficial. The government does not endorse, promote, or license any private testing company, nor does it encourage or recommend them.
