Facilitating EcoMentoring Workshops
Become an EcoMentor
in 5 easy steps...
The EcoMentors program is about peer-led popular education – education delivered for and by people with a common characteristic – in this case, age. It is important to understand that learning doesn’t have to be about “handing down” information from an “expert” or “teacher”. With EcoMentors, it is about sharing information and personal experiences between peers. EcoMentors are trained as “facilitators” of knowledge-sharing rather than “presenters” of information.
EcoMentor workshops use exciting, energetic, and interactive activities, games and discussions to get youth and children thinking about environmental issues and what they can do. As an EcoMentor it is not your responsibility to have all the answers. Your focus is to get participants to share what they already know about an environmental topic and to help them draw connections to new concepts and ideas.
Don’t forget to keep track of your workshops!
A minimum of four workshops must be completed and tracked to become a certified EcoMentor and receive your rewards package. You will also need to track your progress if you are completing volunteer/community hours. Use our Program Forms to help track your progress, and then mail, fax or email them to EcoMentors staff for confirmation.
